The FingerSmear concept was born at
a hands-on arts festival that I produced for several years in San
Francisco. "FingerSmears are large canvases created under my
direction using "fingersmears" of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of
people on one canvas. They are generally created as commemorative
pieces for large scale events or as fundraisers for non-profits. An
image is designed based on the event. I begin the canvas by sketching out
the image so guests can see where the piece is headed. The piece is
then brought on location. Participants are invited to pick a color
from the pallet and stick their finger in the paint. Based on their choice
of color I offer a bit of direction in applying the paint and they make
their mark. All guests then sign the canvas. The final destination
of each piece varies by project. "FingerSmears" have been
used as gift to major sponsors, corporate lobby art, and auction items.
I have had the pleasure of involving over50,000 people in my work including, The
Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Carol Burrnet, Van Cliburn, Jim Belushi,
Willem Defoe, Jason Giambi, and Brooks Robinson. FingerSmear clients include Mercedes Benz, Pepsi,
The Red Cross, Macys, Neiman Marcus, and Dupont. |
