Crossing The Border
acrylic on canvas
Size 24" x 36
This was one of the only times in Thailand that I felt like I was somewhere I didn't belong. This piece is based on a photo that was taken at the Northern tip of Thailand in the infamous Golden Triangle. This particular boat was crossing the border over to Burma. They weren't a jubilant group of fellows. The one sitting down & facing forward caught a glimpse of my camera and strongly motioned that I go away. This was the only picture I took in that area. I decided it was a pretty drive and it was time to go. As I headed back to what I believed to be safer grounds, I was delayed at gun point for 30 minutes while the authorities searched every cranny of my vehicle for opium. Dissatisfied with my collection of chewing gum, bananas, and Marlboro Reds, they sent me on my way.
